South Africa’s Most Prestigious Conservation Driven Flyfishing Event.

Since 2012, the Winter One Fly has brought together forty of Mavungana Flyfishing’s top repeat clients — anglers who travel extensively with us and share a deep commitment to conservation. It is an invite‑only gathering on exclusive private waters, combining world‑class flyfishing with meaningful impact.

The Event Experience.

Held annually in early July, the event is an invite‑only gathering limited to just 40 anglers. The format is simple but demanding: each participant fishes with a single fly, and the winner is the angler who lands the longest fish, measured nose to tail fork. All fishing is catch‑and‑release, overseen by Mavungana Flyfishing guides, ensuring the event remains conservation- minded at its core. The competition takes place on exclusive Dullstroom trout waters, with entrants receiving a specially tied fly designed and tested by Mavungana guides.

Beyond the fishing, the Winter One Fly is renowned for its atmosphere: exceptional hospitality, curated handouts, and a gala dinner where prizes and auction items are awarded. These include dream destination trips, lodge stays, art pieces, and premium gear from leading local and international brands. The event is not only prestigious for the calibre of anglers it attracts but also for the generosity of its sponsors and supporters.

What truly sets the Winter One Fly apart is its impact. Half of the funds raised go directly to the Anti‑Poaching Unit in Kruger National Park, supporting rangers with vital equipment such as Belgian Malinois tracker dogs, night vision gear, body armour and trauma kits. The other half funds fish tagging and research projects in collaboration with the University of Mpumalanga, monitoring fish populations in Pongola Dam and the Lower Orange River. The event also provides gear to Richtersveld Rangers and supports a private security team clearing illegal gill nets along more than 150 km of the Orange River.

Sponsorship Opportunies:

By sponsoring the event, your brand stands alongside a conservation effort that delivers measurable results. Funds raised go directly toward anti‑poaching units in the Kruger National Park, fish‑tagging and research projects on the Pongola Dam and Lower Orange River systems, and essential equipment for ranger teams working on the ground. It’s practical, transparent support that makes a genuine difference.

Sponsors enjoy strong visibility throughout the event, from the prize table and gala dinner to digital and social media coverage, video features, and ongoing communication with a loyal, conservation‑minded audience. The Winter One Fly is known for its generous prize lineup, and every contribution, whether gear, experiences, or financial support, becomes part of the story we share.

Most importantly, sponsorship is a chance to stand with a community that believes in protecting our wildlife and waters. The event’s prestige comes not only from the calibre of anglers who attend, but from the impact it delivers year after year.
